Freaking out

I'm in a tizzy right now - I had a mammogram, got called back for an ultrasound.  They said there were two cysts visible on the ultrasound - one was a simple cyst and the other complex.  That DAY they said the radiologist read the films and u/s and wrote that I would be seen again in 6 months for a mammo and U/S of the left breast.  So feeling a little lighter -  THEN I got a call that the 'other' radiologist wants an MRI done now - SO I feel like I am on a bungie cord here - I'm a little more than freaked out - I am 44 and have young kids - AND my close friend and next door neighbor was just diagnosed in May - so I can't seem to calm myself and keep the really dire thoughts out.  To say I'm freaked is an understatement.

WHY would they do this - if there is something of concern - why not just take it out or biopsy it??  What is the point of going in for the MRI and THEN getting yet another call that they THEN want to biopsy it.  I feel like my head is swimming - I just want whatever it is out.  They can take the rest of the breasts with it for that matter - I need peace of mind - not breasts.  I am sorry - I am just so freaked right now.  I feel like I am being bounced around.

Thanks for responding to my email :) I know the MRI is more easier to diagnose whether it is a tumor or cyst....but yea i can relate...just take it out. We are trusting our lives with these doctors, and its scary. And that is the hardest part...not knowing and waiting. I know, im in the same boat as you.
I just wanna know, so i know what to do. Try to be calm and do things to take your mind off it. Ive been trying to play online games lol and read. Dont look up definitions or look up breast cancer, until you know what you are dealing with. It just freaks you out more i think. Thats my opinion.I was looking up everything on breast cancer and then calling hubby and crying. Im just waiting for authorization from insurance for my MRI. But dont get me wrong, I do remind them to hurry up so i can get the tests done and get my answers haha. If your not satisfied with MRI, or feel somethings wrong get a second opinion or push for the biopsy. My thoughts and prayers are with you as well...and again thanks for responding to me too :)

The one doctor just wants to make sure you are OK by doing a biopsy. Better to be safe. Some doctors don't like doing biopsies because it sometimes can create there on problems. Later, biopsy scars can be seen as calcifications which make them want to biopsy again, can cause scar tissue build up which looks abnormal on mamos. No easy answer here but I would also want it biopsied. Tell your doctor to just biopsy it. Hope this helps. I wish you well.

Sorry - I guess I didn't word it right - I'm not wanting to wait 6 months either - but wondering WHY would one dr. say one thing and the next say another.  The thing that freaks me is that if one dr. thought it was benign enough to wait - then what is the other ordering an mri for - and if he sees something alarming - why not just biopsy or take it out - why put me through yet another test only to end up in the same place???

I'm sorry you are getting conflicting reports...I would imagine that the MRI is so that they can get better info without invasive procedures.  Obviously, it is your body and you make the decisions, but honestly, do you really want to wait 6 months like the first radiologist suggested?  To me, that would be worse....all that time wondering what was happening in my breast.  

Calm down...get your thoughts in order....then make a call to your doc.  Go over the results with him/her and if you don't get answers to your questions, ask for a referral to a good breast surgeon.  

I sure do understand your wanting it out...but please, stop freaking out.  What you really need now is a clear head so that you can get the info you need to make reasonable decisions....
