IBC - worry

Hello All,

On Sunday Dec 27th I woke up with a very painful breast (skin only).  I looked in the mirror and the bottom half of my areola was red and inflamed.  It was sore to the touch and the skin hurt everytime my shirt rubbed against my breast.  I made a doctors appointment and went to see him on Wednesday Dec 30th.  He told me it looked like mastitis and gave me a round of antibiotics.  The redness completely went away in a day or two.  However, today bout a week and half later (still on antibiotics) I noticed that my skin in that same area of my areola is slightly peeling.  I am 31yrs old, never had any children and never had mastitis before.  My breast does have moments of itchiness but there is no discharge and like I mentioned the redness/swelling completely went away.  Should I go back in for another check-up?  Just scared and worried...

It certainly sounds like mastitis and the fact that it improved when you started the antibiotics. Mastitis is sometimes VERY difficult to cure completely and I suggest that you return to the Dr. after you have finished the course of medication if the symptoms persist. These leftover symptoms can very well be related to the infectuous process .... give it some time and then go back for a re-check.     Regards .....
