biopsy birads 4

I am post menopausal.  Was on HRTfor 20 plus years. Went off after uterine cancer dx, stage 1A/1. Had hysterectomy Nov. 2009.  Had my first mammogram and ultrasound in four years last week. Mammogram perfectly normal.  Ultrasound impression: "new left breast area of shadowing measuring 0.3cm. Although this could represent effects of a new macrocalcifiation because of the patient's history of uterine carcinoma, further eval. via biopsy to cofmr the above impression will be performed.  Bi-rads final assessment category. was a 4 which freaked me out because the radioglosit seemed very positive that this was benign.  I had the biopsy and am now waiting the dx. Am extremely anxious now because of the Birads 4 assessment after radiologist was very reassuring about the benign dx.  Any comments would be appreciated. I pressed him further and he said that if I had not had the uterine cancer dx, he would have watched and in three months would have followed up with further testing, but he wanted to do the biopsy. Had FNA last Thursday.

Jut got the call. Benign. Isn't that a wonderful word.  I have to say that the Mammo Centre were I go is wonderful.  When you have a mammogram there they give you immediate results and most of the time do an ultrasound, especially when there are dense breasts. I have read so many posts on these boards, that women have mammograms and they are not told anything. Then they get the call back, so more waiting and more anxiety just to have other tests done.  Why can't all of these centers operate like where I am going.  Women shouldn't have to go through all of this.  When I first called for my appointment, just as an example, I was scared because I had not been to have a mammo in four years.  I had lost my husband to cancer, I had had uterine cancer and I was darned scared to take any tests. They saw how fearful I was before I even got there and put a tech on the phone to calm me down. This is even before I made the appt.  And then to boot, this gal just called me after hours because she knew how anxious i was to give me the result.   This is special and it should be that way for all of us women who have anxieties.  Again, thanks for your support. Hi there -- thanks for your comments. I appreciate your input.  The biopsy result is still in pathology waiting to be finalized and sent over to the mammography center where I had the biopsy.  I have made several calls over to my nurse who is handling my case and she said we won't get it until tomorrow morning. However, she said (and this made me feel much better) that "the doctor feels it's benign and he would not have said that if he didn't feel that way" .

The path. report apparently has been sitting on the pathologists desk waiting for him to sign off on it before he sends it over. My nurse even spoke to one of the gals over here who said she wasn't able to see it. So that's where I am.  The pathology is being done at Valley Hospital, Ridgewood, NJ and their reputation is great. So I think I might sleep better tonight. Again thanks again for your kind words. I think that makes perfect sense, I mean what your doctor explained.

What I understand him saying is that the reason he put you up there at BIRAD 4 is not so much because he sees anything worrysome, but because of your history of Uterine Cancer.

He just wants to make sure. also, you have not been checked out in three years?

I think doctors tend to be more aggressive with their follow ups if you have had a history of cancer, and as you report, he says that he would have only told you to come back in three months had there been no history. he may have even staged you lower were such the case?
