Nipple discharge, ... cancer?

I'm 22, male, and heavier than I should be.  I woke up this morning with my chest extremely sore.  Stumbling into the bathroom, I flipped on the light and had a look.  I think the technical term is unilateral discharge.  Anyways, a clear, sticky liquid came out of one nipple, which seems to have a lump of some kind.  I've been frantically searching the web for information, and the first thing that comes up is a link to the Mayo Clinic, which scares the heck out of me.  My grandfather succumbed to cancer, and my brother just discovered something and had it cut out of his chin.

This is a totally new experience for me and I plan on going to the Urgent Care clinic near my house, but thought I should get other suggestions in case there's something I haven't thought of.  I'm preparing myself for the worst.

Hi,
You are most welcome.
I would suggest you to still get a clinical evaluation, so that if it is an infective lesion you can be given a course of antibiotics.
If there is pus collection, you might to get it removed by a doctor.
Hope it isnt that complicated though, and that you are back to normal again.
Good luck.

After getting a few over-the-phone diagnoses from my relatives (One's a doctor and two are nurses), I tried one of their remedies.  Keep the area warm and slowly knead the lump.  The pain has almost completely vanished, and I can hardly feel the lump anymore.  They suggested that it was an ingrown hair that had had all night to fill with pus, and it seems they were probably right.

If it does come back, I will go get it looked at, but I wanted to thank you again for your help.

That's kind of what I figured.  My grandfather had cancer in his leg as a child, before anything could really be done about it.  It went into remission until he discovered he had lung cancer from a lifetime of smoking a pipe.  If I was hurt, I don't remember it.  I went to bed feeling fine, and woke up with a lump.

Thank you for your help.

Hi,
It would be ebst to get a clinical examination at the earliest. Ant discharge or lump in a male is abnormal and warrants further investigation.
When you say your grandfather had cancer, do you mean breast cancer? You should get a clinical evaluation done. The nipple discharge would be sent for lab examination and you would need an ultrasound if there is a lump on examination.
Do you remember any traume to the site or any accidental injury?
Hope this helps.
Good luck.
