Orange peel skin on breasts

Hi there,
For the previous few weeks I have had orange peel skin between my breasts, on my sternum and underneath my breasts on the inner curve. I also have tenderness on my sternum. I thought it might have been my bra, so I haven't worn a bra for four days, but it hasn't made any difference. I do not have any redness (apart from a couple of small bruise-like marks) or warmth or swelling. I have been generally unwell for a few months with a post-viral syndrome. I am wondering whether anyone can offer any advice about this. Is it definitely a sign of breast cancer or can it be indicative of anything else? I am 23 years old, with a history of breast cancer (my grandmother died of it at a young age).
Many thanks in advance.

I agree with Katarina777 and bluebutterfly2222.
This sounds like a skin problem to me too.
Some people who develop a breast abscess or infection could also notice the skin to appear like orange peel skin  "peau d’orange".
Like bluebutterfly suggested, consulting a dermatologist would be most appropriate.
Take care and I hope you'll be feeling better soon...

I think Kimberly Sue means IBC (Inflammatory breast cancer), and bluebutterfly2222 is aware of this cancer as well. as she does, I also do not believe you, teacheruk, have that cancer.

Breast cancer rarely presents itself between the two breasts, and it is usually only found in one breast, not both. I do not believe you have IBC, and probably also not any other bc?

Take care and let us know? KATRIN

There is a type of breast cancer that is defined by the orange peel look of the skin. I think it is important that you see your doctor right away. It may not be cancer, but if it is, it is a kind that you need to get on with treatment for right away. Look up your symptoms on MayoClinic, or MD Anderson, or Dana Farber. They will give you pictures, descriptions, and information on treatment. But they do not replace being seen by your own doc. Don't wait.....

Hi,

This sounds more like a skin (dermatological) issue than a breast issue.

You should consult your primary care doctor for his/her opinion, and if needed, referral to a dermatologist.
