I have the CA 27.29 done every six weeks and mine bounces around a bunch. I recently discovered that caffeine could make it fluxuate. There are several things that can make it fluxuate. Please stay on top of your tests.

Hi,

You can relax and no need to worry so much. CA27.29 can only be of significance if the values increase markedly from the previous time.

Also a progressive rise would be more indicative of a lesion not just a single elevated reading.

Also values <100 are rarely associated with malignancy. Hope this helps to calm you.

The  tumor markers are considered of significance on the basis of serial values or trends. An increasing tend in consecutive reports indicates recurrence or spread, etc.

If the tumor marker is being used to determine whether a treatment is working or if there is recurrence, the tumor marker levels are often measured over a period of time to see if the levels are increasing or decreasing. Usually these "serial measurements" are more meaningful than a single measurement.

You could also talk to your oncologist about this .

Good luck.

Hello,

I had a lumpectomy 2000, along with radiation only.  I took Tamoxifen for 5 years.  My CA 27 29 has been in the teens, lowest 10.5 to 19.  I have this test every 6 months.  December 2008 was 14.9, June 30th was 23.9.  My Oncologist would like another one done in 30 days to see if this is a trend.  I am extremely concerned that it has gone up.  I was also told the normal value is from 0 to 38.  I feel like a walking time bomb, is it reoccurring if so where?  I get extremely stressed out as I am my husbands care giver, I am all he has.  My question is, is there anything, meaning vitamins or anything that would make this test elevate?  AT the end of this month I re-take this and it is still elevated from my norm, what do you suggest?
Thank you,

Barbara
