I met with a radiation oncologist today for an initial consultation. He read the post-lumpectomy report and noticed that the pathologist didn't find a clip (from the biopsy) in the tissue (clean margin) my surgeon took out. My surgeon didn't mention about it last week. So, he is sending me to mammogram next week........Is this common?
Thank you very much! Your answers/comments always help me.
Your Surgeon is correct ... Mammograms or MRI are not done immediately following surgery of any kind. They are usually put back on the regular schedule. It would be a waste of time, money and resources so soon after surgery and would show nothing except the surgery. I'm a firm believer that we should follow the recommendations of the Phyicians who are caring for us and know our individual cases ... not what we read in books. Regards ....
