Premarin induced breast cancer

Premarin induced breast cancer

At 49 I had a COMPLETE HYSTERECTOMY, and was placed on PREMARIN. Now 5 years later at 54 I was just diagnosised with BREAST CANCER and told to stop Premarin which is a HRT medicine, and was using for the entire 5 years. My question is , Does anyone know what I might experience, since I can no longer take HRT medicine.  I'm not sure if I'm thru with menapuase.  But with surgery and the long haul of recovery, I'm not looking forward with the complications of menapause. Please advise.

Hi.

If your ovaries were removed along with the uterus during your operation before, then you are already in menopause (termed surgical menopause).  However, the HRT that you receive may have masked any symptoms of menopause that should have developed during that time.

this time, upon withdrawal of HRT, it is possible that you may experience menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and mood swings.  To counteract these, you can ask your doctor about drugs such as Venlafaxine which is proven to control menopause symptoms.

Regards and God bless.
