Raloxifene vs. Tamoxifene

I was diagnoised with E/P positive invasive breast cancer.  Lymphnodes clear and had five weeks of radiation treatment.  Tried Tomxifene but made me ill.  Dr, recommended Raloxifene.  does Raloxifene prevent the recurrance of my type of breast cancer?  Marian

Thanks for your input.  The tamoxifene made me dizzy at times and very nausiated.  I am a preschool teacher and need to be attentive to 3,4,and 5 year olds at all times.  I have not experienced any of those symptoms since I have been taking the Raloxifene.  I just wanted to be sure that because I have been diagnoised with breast cancer and have gone through radiation treatment that the Raloxifene will be as affective as Tamoxifene in keeping the cancer from recurring.  Thank you for your input.  Marian

It does act as an anti-estrogen but also acts like estrogen in that it prevents the bone loss that other drugs like Tamoxifen may cause. It actually has the same side effects as Tamoxifen but not every person will experience all of these side effects or to the same degree. I'm not sure what you mean by "it made me ill" ... you may have the same side effects with the other drug but it's worth a try.    Regards ....
