The underarm has extensive sweat glands and hair follicles that can become colonized with bacteria and eventually become inflamed. It is termed as hidradenitis suppurativa. This can produce pain and tenderness. Drainage of the pus needs to be done and adequate antibiotic should be given. Patients can experience recurrent infection.
