Side Effects

Just been diagnosed triple negative, had a lumpectomy and subsequent further op to remove infected lymph nodes, 17 in total all bad. Started chemo last Friday, AC- Accelerated Taxol, they gave me an injection to help with low white blood cells and the effects of this only just hit 6 days in, severe pain in my leg joints, has anyone else had the same and can you tell me how long it will last and if it will get worse and spread?

Hello Tek,

I'm sorry you're having to go through this. If your shot was Neulasta that is indeed one of the side effects, joint pain. I had it all over my body and it was sometimes crippling but I still went to work. I walked like I was 30 years older than I am because my hips, legs, feet, hands and spine ached like crazy. Even my fingers!

The only thing I can say is when you get your chemo, drink lots of water and flush it out of your system as quick as you can. The Neulasta shot causes these painful side effects but you need your blood levels to stay high so... it's worth it, really. When I was hurting at least I knew it was working.

I wish you all the best!

That sounds exactly like it was just beginning to feel better after the first chemo and wham, like you say feel and look like an old woman. Any idea how long it lasts and if it will happen every time?

By the way won't flushing the chemo out defeat the object?

Thanks TEK
