Stressing please help me..had 3 breats biopsies

I am 46 yrs old. Last five mammos were fine. Last week I had annual mammo at Cleveland clininc. They had me take additional pictures and also ordered a bilateral US. The next day I was having 3 lumps biopsied (onein the left and two in the right). The strange thing is that two months ago during my cycle I felt pain and a lump in right breast. I had a focused US of the breast and radiologist said it was a cyst..no worries. Here I am two months later and needed biopsies of the same lump. Biopsy results will take several days and I am dying of stress. The radiologist was very vague..why all the darn secrecy? He said that lumps did not look ugly but they can't be sure its "nothing" so they must do biopsy. Said the lumps looked suspicious. I have two aunts with breast cancer. No frist degree cancer though. All prior mammos were good. Also past US of same breast were fine. Please help me understand what is going on.

GREAT news---I'm so happy for you! I'm hoping the excision of the ADH will go well and you'll have an easy recovery. My biopsies were excisional and they weren't bad at all---
more soreness than real pain and pretty well-healed in less than a week. Of course, every case is different, but I hope yours will be easy, too.
Continue your good work on behalf of all women---that's wonderful! We all do our part in the fight whether it's just taking good care of ourselves of reaching out to help others.
Take care and sending best wishes,
Hugs,
Norah

Hi again,

Yes, ADH (Atypical ductal hyperlpasia) is considered a precancerous condition, and the affected area should be completely excised, just as you are doing. I hope that will be the end of it for you, although sometimes there is follow-up radiation.

I applaud you for obtaining the appropriation for digital mammography at your hospital, even BEFORE you had your BC scare. Keep up the good work!!

Best wishes...

Thank  you. One of the lesions needs to be removed. Its ductal hyporplasia atypia....its precursor to cancer. I plan to have it excised in October. I am so relieved. Waiting for biopsies is not a pleasant expereince. Something must be done to make the process faster and  less stressful. Good luck to you. I will keep coming back to the forums. My prayers are with all of us. Its ironic because I am a senator and the first law I passed last year was an appropriation for the purchase of  a digital mammography machine for our hospital. The only mammography machine is in a private provider's office. Now poor and uninsured women will have easy access to mammography. God is Good!

The last time I was told the mammogram looked highly suspicious. After waiting to have the core biopsy, I waited another entire week for the results. When the physician finally called and said negative, I responded that I was relieved because I'd been so sure they were going to be positive again. She said "Really?" in a way that made me feel a bit like a hypocondriac. Hmm, not a pleasant experience over all.

Not really enthusiastic about that "annual" mammogram any more, although eventually I'll get around to another one.

You are doing the right thing - following up on your findings.  If you are prone to lumps, this will happen again.  You want to develop a way of dealing with the findings and follow-up that makes the waiting and worry manageable.  Most people get a good result to their testing.  Some of us find something that needs to be treated.  The other ladies and I have all been treated and have walked the long road.  We will rejoice with you if there is nothing of concern or support you through whatever is found.

Waiting for tests and results and having all sorts of things spiraling through your mind is hard.  Focus on the facts that you know and understanding what is involved in the next step helps you feel more in control and involved.  Having biopsies is the way to test each lump and know for sure what is going on.  Try not to "what if" because it wastes your energy and emotional strength.  Most of what we worry over, never happens (thank heavens for that!)

You are going to a good hospital with a fine reputation.  I live in far nw Ohio, or I would have gone to the Clinic also.  I see doctors locally and in Ann Arbor at U of M Cancer Center.   I am thinking of you.

Just wanted to add my good wishes to zouzi's! Her advice is 100% right and should be comforting to you. Like she said, we've all been there---I've had biopsies of two areas twice and a total of five, so I don't think the odd are any more against than you with three. The only way to know for sure is to biopsy and that's already been done. Now you just need to try to stay postive and take one step and one day at a time until the results are in. I've said this to others here and truly believe it---- "what ifs" are way worst than "what is." Please don't stay lonely---talk with trusted friends or relatives for support
and encouragement. We're here for you whenever you need us.
Wishing you benign results and sending a big hug (   ),

Hi again,
When we have lumps in our breasts, most of us presume that it could be something other than benign. When we have to go through biopsies, this alone naturally raises our anxiety level. But keep in mind that most biopsies findings are benign so you have a good chance that the lumps you have are also benign.Take one step at a time..I know it's so hard when we are facing these situations, but what can we do? Most women in our Forum have gone and are going through the same anxiety you are going through and I personally think that the waiting for the results is one of the most stressful period in our lives.Take courage and try not to over stress yourself .Go out,see your family and your friends, go to movies and do the things you most enjoy.Believe me,the waiting for the results will seem shorter.
I wish you well and I'll keep my fingers crossed for Benign results.

Thanks for your response. I feel so lonely. I cant clean the house loss appetite and feel depressed. What are the chances that all three spots biopsied are benign/ I see the odds are stacked against me here. I appreciate your response. Thanks

Hi there,
After a Mammogram,a spot compression Mammogram and an Ultrasound guided biopsy,it is obvious that an abnormality was found that needed to be investigated. These lumps could be cysts or Fibroadenomas (both benign findings),but no one can tell you for sure what these lumps could be.Even a radiologist can not be absolutely sure without having these lumps tested.Having a biopsy does not mean that you have breast cancer. Many lumps biopsied are found to be benign in nature. The waiting for the results is nerve wrecking for everyone, but there is nothing we can do about it except to keep busy as much as possible so the waiting will seem shorter.
Hang in there..and I hope that the results will be favorable to you.
Please keep us posted,if you wish, about the results.
Best wishes and good luck....
