Symmetrical lumps in both armpits

Hi,

I have lumps in both armpits for many years (5 year plus at least, maybe 10).  They are located in the hollows of my armpit (1 in each armpit) and are quite large (maybe 3-5 cm diameter).  They are symmetrical, as they are located in both left and right armpits and they feel and look the same.  If I lift my arms over my head, both of my armpits look bulgy. I feel no discomfort at all.  I had a fibroadenoma in my breast and got it removed when I was around 16, I'm 28 now.

Should I be worried?

Thanks

I am very glad that all is fine.
Fibroadenomas are benign breast tumors and are not related to breast cancer in any way.
As long as your radiologist is sure it is a fibroadenoma, there would be no need to remove the lumps, because in many cases fibroadenomas could go away on their own within a few years. There are some reports stating that low fat, high fiber diets and limiting your caffeine intake ( coffee, chocolate, colas) could decrease incidence of fibroadenoma.
Thank you very much for the update and wishing continued good health.:)

The ultrasound was performed and the doctor found a number of small fibroadenoma... :-( but she assured me that there's nothing to worry about.
As to the lumps in the armpits, they are just normal tissues.  Definitely recommend ultrasound for anyone who's concerned. It is good to know what you have so you can start monitoring.

I am really glad  that the doctor said it's nothing worrisome.
An ultrasound is a quick and painless procedure which is very useful for a variety of conditions, including the cause of the swelling.
Please let us know how things are proceeding. I am very hopeful that these lumps in your armpit are nothing to worry about.
Take care...

Hi,

Went to see a doctor today, she said it's nothing. But still scheduled a ultrasound for the breasts just in case.  Some relief :-)

Thanks for the reply.

Hi,
These lumps in both your armpits, sounds to me like they could be fatty tissue that may look as a bulge. Please note that I am only guessing here, since you have these lumps for so many years and are present in both your armpits .
If you haven't seen a doctor yet,I would suggest you do so for a clinical breast exam to make sure, first of all, that these lumps are harmless.
If it turns out to be fatty tissues, then you could schedule a consultation with a plastic surgeon to correct this problem .
All the best
