Treatent for fat necrosis following DIEP reconstruction

I had a DIEP reconstruction last May following chemo, radiation and mastectomy.  My new breast has areas of fat necrosis.  I had an ultrasound in October and will have another next week.  Follow-up surgery to finish and fine tune the reconstruction won;t be til next August.  I'm told that hopefully by then some of the fat necrosis will be resolved.  Meanwhile,  I'm feeling some stabbing pain in my breast and the new breast is swelling laterally and medially and my chest above the breast is swelling also.  Is this normal healing? Please explain what it happening.  As I said, I'm going to have an ultrasound next Friday but I'm a little worried.

Can't really even take a guess as to what may be causing your symptoms. I advise you to contact your Plastic Surgeon about the pain and swelling you are experiencing. Without knowledge of your complete history (surgical procedure) I wouldn't care to comment on the cause but it doesn't sound like the normal healing process to me since your surgery was in May.  Regards ..
