Unnecessary Biopsy?

I had a clean mammogram 6 months ago and last month. To be cautious, (I have a slight elevated familial risk) my doctor ordered an MRI. MRI from one year ago was clear. This year the radiologists reported "no significant findings Non mas llike low level enhancement of left breast. 1.1-1.7 cm area".
I had a follow up ultrasound which is negative. I then had a diagnostic mammogram which was negative. My doctor now has me scheduled for an MRI guided biopsy. i am scared of the biopsy and scared what is going on. My doctor told me I probably have nothing to worry about but if I wanted early detection, I should get used to this. This is the price you pay. This is all very stressful and I am wondering if this is all necessary? Should I get a second opinion before the biopsy? Is anyone familiar with these radiology terms?
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Good for you ..... glad it turned out to be a "nothing" but just because it did; don't ignore things in the future, OK ?? I personally am not a fan of the Breast MRI .... perhaps I will be one day but not yet. Thanks for the update .... Regards..

I wanted to give an update on what happened to me in case any of else finds themselves worrying about unecessary biopsies from MRI readings. I went in for my MRI guided biopsy surgery. the radiologist put me into the MRI for 30 minutes and could no longer locate any unusual areas. I had waited 30 days from the first MRI to the biopsy due to a vacation I had already scheduled. Allowing this time to pass I'm sure cleared up whatever little area was there- probably a bruise or edema the doctor said. I feel so grateful i avoided unnecessary surgery. My doctor has me scheduled now for ANOTHER MRI in 6 months now "to be sure" again. I am glad i waited a month beofer I had teh biopsy- had I gone in right away- i am sure I would have had the biopsy on NOTHING!

Thank you. I read about these false positives before I began taking the mri's and feared an MRI would lead to a biopsy, no matter what. It's hard NOT to take a look now also once you 've been told there was a change.

I would definitely get a second opinion .... there are many, many false positives with a number of tests and MRI is one of them. I don't think you have any reason to be afraid of a biopsy (of any kind) but I also don't think you should have one unnecessarily. Get that 2nd opinion !!!
