Vitamin D to improve bone density

Vitamin D to improve bone density

I have been diagnoised with invasive ductal carcinoma, E/P positive receptors, lymphnodes clear, radiation treatment for 5 weeks.  I am post menapausel and was put on Tamoxifene.  I tried it for 12 days and was not tolerating it very well.  So my Oncologist put me on Raloxifene for 2 years, as my bone density test were low and felt my body would not do well being on Arimidex right now.  She is hoping my bone density will improve with the raloxifene.  How much vitamin D would be healthy for me to take and help improve my bone situation?  I have been told that raloxifene helps prevent breast cancer but is not usually given to some one who has already been diagnosed with BC.  I am anxious to get my body ina position so I can get started on Arimidex wiht out it causing harm to my bones.  MM

Did you have your blood checked for your Vit. D level? Because that would give you the most useful information in terms of informing you if the D is low. Vit. D is low in many people who have or develop cancer. Mine was extremely low and I believe the vitamin D supplements worked wonders for my case, but then I really needed it as well and I am not sure how beneficial it would be to supplement with Vit. D if your blood tests show the levels are normal? Kat
