blood from the nipple

I have had a clear secretion from the left breast for some time now and this morning when putting on my bra I noticed a spot of blood in it, when I check to see if I had a sore or something, I found nothing. I thought maybe It was from the nipple when I squeezed the nipple it released some blood. Where do i go from here?

Hi again,
If you are on birth control pills, certain blood pressure medications or on major tranquilizers, these medications increase prolactin levels in the body that could cause the discharge. Also do NOT squeeze the nipple, the more you do,the more you will have a discharge .A visit to your doctor would be advisable though, because if the discharge still keeps on happening and is spontaneous you need to make sure that there isn't any problem.
Take care .....

Thank you for your response. After my post I continued to watch the discharge and come to find out that it is a brownish colr and not blood. Don't know if this changes anything. Will continue to watch.

Hi,
A bloody nipple discharge could be caused by both benign and malignant conditions.   Invasive cancers do not usually cause breast discharge. However, this condition should be ruled out.
Examples of benign conditions that can cause bloody nipple discharge include breast abscess, mastitis,, fibrocystic disease, intraductal papilloma etc..
Please contact her Doctor or a Breast Specialist so that this discharge could be further investigated.
Best wishes....
