what is the alternatives if the cancer is too close to the nipple area for a needle lumpectomy?

I have DCIS stage 0 under and close to my nipple.  Two different surgeons are of the opinion now that the nipple can be saved, and just the bad area removed.  I'll know for sure after the surgery.  I'll let you know what happens!

Lumpectomies are done thru an open incision ... biopsies however are done thru a needle. I'm not sure what you mean by alternatives. Which method of removal would be the decision of the Surgeon as he/she would know which would be best for the pt.s individual case.
