Benign breast tumor, then a cyst......and now more trouble...

I've always felt a hard lump in my left breast since I started developing. 4 years ago the lump started to get bigger and hurt very badly before my period every month. I went to the doctor, did 2 ultrasounds and 1 biopsy and confirmed that it was a benign tumor, no need to remove. It still continued to hurt very badly whenever my period comes, and it increased in size and pressed against my skin causing it to appear read, and scaling of the skin.

I cannot recall when but this condition has gradually stopped through the years. I'm 26 now, the tumor seems to have... disappeared during the last 2 years or so. It didn't hurt around my period anymore.

BUT! Around 2 years ago, I started to have a cyst very close to my left nipple (exactly where the tumor used to press up against whenever I had my period, where the redness and skin scaling occured). It would get bigger and bigger causing a small dome-like round bump until it pops....then blood mixed with some fat-like whitish yellowish liquid started pouring out... It was pretty painful.

Whenever it was drained, the wound would close, and then the it would start to get bigger again and pop again.... same thing happened for a long long time. I went to the doctor, he said the only way for it to stop is to remove it. He said it won't kill me, but if it's bothering me then I should consider surgery. I didn't want to remove anything from my breast! So I kept on dealing with the leaking and draining... The wound didn't even hurt anymore...

Maybe a year ago it stopped popping. It's still um... empty.. where the cyst used to be. As in it felt like what's below the skin was liquid and not meat.

Now when I squeeze the cyst area, one of 2 things happen. 1) Some sort of liquid, kind of like the stuff that came out when I popped my cyst but more liquid and more clear in color, would come out of my nipple...I have never been pregnant before so it can't be milk right?...  OR  2) a cheese-like whitish yellowish "cream" would come out of the old wound (now pin sized hole) and it smelled like goat cheese..

What the Heck is going on??....... what kept coming out of my breast?? It's not painful or anything, just very disgusting and I want to know what is this thing that comes out of my nipple and my cyst wound. And I will not consider surgery.. I was wondering if it would go away with age like my tumor.

Breast is one part of your body that you MUST take very seriously. Dont delay, find a breast specialist straight away and have breast ultra sound and mamo done quickly. The results should provide you answers.

Fibroadenomas (solid lesions), and cysts (fluid filled lesions), both benign, are very common and usually left alone unless there are complications; i.e a lot of pain. As with your lesion a few years ago, they eventually disappear by themselves, and usually within 5 years.

Now discharge can be caused by many things. Some are quite norma. others may be best treated with an antibiotic if this is due to a bacterial infection, and if it's a fungal infection, this may be treated with an antifungal.

But I have no way of diagnosing this for you, and I don't know how extensive the problem is. Perhaps you should consult a dermatologist who can culture the fluids? (I am not certain that a dermatologist would be the correct choice) maybe your PCP could tell you or otherwise reassure you, or advise you differently.

I am sorry but this is all I know/don't know.

How do I get rid of it? Without cutting it?

Hi there,

The cheese-like whitish yellowish "cream" sounds like it could be 'a fungal' infection. Don't take my word for it but from experience I know that a fungal discharge can have/has these properties.
