Breast calcifications are deposits of calcium that can be seen on a mammogram of the breast. There are two types: macrocalcifications and microcalcifications.
Calcifications show up as tiny specks of white on film; when they are scattered about they are of little or no concern. If they are seen to be clustered or in groups they may indicate something more serious as in this form they are the indication that the breast tissue is reacting to some abnormality with the breast. This however does NOT mean that the abnormality is cancer. A great number of biopsies done for calcifications return a benign result. Regards ....
