cause of ductal and lobular hyperplasia

hello,
can anyone tell why ductal and lobular hyperplasia occurs? Is it because some abnormal signals in our body?will it remain benign always or the speed of the cell multiplication which decides whether it will turn malignant or not?Is it possible that hyperplasia dissappear altogether after some time(signals turn off)? Please give some detail answer.
regards

hi,
A big thanks for your effort to answer me.In my last ultrasound there wasn't any significant change. That is why i accepted the oncologist's suggestion for monitoring otherwise i will certainly opt for the surgery.Even this  doubt about my lump(will it turn malignant or not) changed my life and my way of thinking. Now i know how others who are deep into this are going through..a feeling of  being alone even if all are around..and a need for being mentally brave to fight this out. This forum does a good job in that. Thanks once again..and take care..
regards..

If you prefer NOT to follow the usual recommendations then it certainly is your right to do that. I had my own opinions concerning my case and followed them also. Often we can be bombarded with so many opinions that it only serves to confuse even more; I often advise pt.s NOT to do too much research since most deals in generalities rather than any specific situation. I applaud you for standing up for your choice in this matter as many women don't .... not saying that I totally approve but it's not for me to say. I was fortunate to have had a Surgeon and personal Physician who believed that every pt. had a choice in their own health matters. Take care .....

hello,
Thank you very much for your reply.I had discussed this issue with the oncologist(he is very famous in our city). In his opinion hyperplasia can exist  even in healed wound tissues and excising it is not a good idea  for future cancer risk.He does not see any potential for  surgery regarding hyperplasia. In my case he ordered an ultrasound( FNAC only if required). But the radiologist didn't perform the FNAC saying that the hypoechoic area is too small(1 mm size).I know another doctor who is working in very famous cancer centre who shares similar opinion regarding this issue. In his opinion one surgery after another doesn't make sense for lumps. If we have to avoid the risk then removing the entire breast is appropriate and that is a very heavy choice in my situation..For him close monitoring(ultrasound  and mammogram) is enough for hyperplasia.I don't know whether they are correct or not in their judgement.Only my future will decide it...Any way i am not going for the surgery which was reccommended  by my surgeon and i am opting for close monitoring.Let me know any  information regarding this..
regards.

Saying that a woman may not get cancer is only another way of saying that she might. The ADH or ALH is only said to "increase" a woman's risk for the future. The areas of Hyperplasia are usually recommended for removal to stop the growth of that particular area and future lumps need NOT be the same as the area removed. I do agree with excision of any area of Hyperplasia IF atypical cells are found and whatever follow-up treatment too if any is advised. Atypical cells are evident in the specimen obtained during biopsy.   Regards ....

hello,
Thanks for your reply.I have  doubts..Why it is said that a woman with hyperplasia may not get cancer in the future? Just becuase the speed of the abnormal growth is not enough for her life span?If lumps are forming one after another ..excising it  will save her from getting cancer  for some time only?Do you think it is a  good option ?Hope you will answer.

As far as the cause .... that remains a bit of a mystery. Hyperplasia when present, especially when termed "atypical" can increase your chances of developing breast cancer in the future but is not really malignant itself other than the abnormal increase in cell growth. I don't believe that it can disappear; it is usually excised completely with clean margins to reduce the future risk of breast cancer. Regards .....
