breats cancer

I had a double bilateral mastectomy 1 1/2 years ago. Due to precanerious cell and have the cancer gene. Found a new lump on right side. Waited two weeks for ultrasound. They did it on a Thursday and did a needle biopsy on the Friday. Doc called and said he wanted to see me today.
Can you still get breast cancer? They left the lymp nodes as there was no canerious cells present.

Hi again,

Here is some additional info about local recurrence after mastectomy:

"A local recurrence can also occur in the scar or chest wall after a mastectomy. Actually, the term "chest wall" is inaccurate here, because it implies that the cancer is in the muscle or bone. This type of recurrence appears in the skin and fat sitting where the breast was before; only rarely does it include the muscle. About 10 percent of all women treated for breast cancer with a mastectomy will have this type of recurrence. Ninety percent of these recurrences happen within the first five years after the mastectomy."

Best wishes,
bb

Hi and welcome to our community,

I just saw you post, and I'm sorry no one answered it earlier.

Unfortunately, there is still a risk of breast cnancer, although much reduced, after mastectomies, because a small amount of breast tissue remains.

Clearly you did all you could to lower your risk, but it does sound concerning that your doctor wanted you to come in today, following the needle biopsy last Friday.

If you don't mind,  after you see your doctor, please let us know what you learned--we care!

My thoughts will be with you,
