Hi,
Unfortunately,even after a mastectomy,cancer can reoccur :(
Cancerous tumor cells remain in the original site, and over time, grow back. Most physicians do not consider local breast cancer recurrence to be the spread of breast cancer, but rather, failure of the primary treatment. Even after mastectomy, portions of the breast skin and fat remain, and local recurrence is unfortunately possible.
With proper recommended treatment I sure hope that you'll beat cancer once again!.
Wishing you all the best...

Mastectomies don't remove all the breast tissue unfortunately.

I am so sorry you're having to go through this again.

Best wishes to you.

What type of treatment did you have the first time around? Anything besides mastectomy?

I am just wondering, and not because I want to point my finger that 'they should have done more.'

PS: Oh, and I was also wondering how long it has been since you were treated the first time? it's usually better if more time has passed, rather than less.  Kat

I am not sure what to say. Did you neglect to have this checked out in time? From your description, your symproms must have started a while back to get to this point?

I  am really sorry you are facing this mess again, and now. it's a positive sign that 9 years have passed since first diagnosis, but I guess not positive enough to make a difference for you right now.

I really hope for the best. six treatments of chemo is what I had and seems about right and average?

You don't say if you had radiation as well, and what king and severity of cancer you had in the first place.
You also mention having had another cancer.

Anyway, I really hope treatment will make it better. I have my tumor markers checked every month, and that gives me a really good idea how things are working and going? It's maybe something you want to talk to your oncologist about.

Best, Kat

I am so sorry. I've never heard of the drainage issue. I am adding you to my prayer list.

I apologize for sounding so critical in my prior response. It somehow came out this way but was not intended as such. I am really  sorry for that; i.e. using the word 'neglect'. (it was not meant as an accusation but more like as a mistake/not realizing something soon enough, and that we all make)  Kat
