thank you very much for responding.i am going to have my surgery nov 16.double simple mastectomies with insertion of tissue expander for silicone implant.I guess this is the right way to go.saving my other breast might mean worrying again ang undergoing the same process again.I'm sure we all will agree that we don't want cancer to come back or alteast give it even a little chance to affect our lives again.hope to hear from you again.
Unfortunately we can't make your decisions, however, if you believe based on the information you've been given, that this is the way you should go for your long term health and sanity, then yes. I'm so sorry you are so young going through this. I hope you have a good support system to stand with you. If you are concerned with your decision, talk it over more with your surgeon. I know one other person who has stage 2 cancer her2neu + that is doing the same thing. She's a few years older than you. She chose to have both breasts removed so that she wouldn't have to worry about any further recurrances because of her breast tissue. Now, she could have a recurrance anyway because she did have a lymph node involved, but removing the breasts does take care of a great percentage of recurrance. She says she feels much better with her decision. She contemplated for quite a while with it, too.
This is a very personal decision. You need to really focus on your health, but also on how will you feel with a double mastectomy. Are you going to do implants or tram flap? Have you talked to people who have had implants after mastectomy? I had a tram flap after mine. It's pretty decent for a man-made breast, but it is man-made and doesn't quite have the feel or the look of a real breast.
Have you had a consultation with a plastic surgeon? He might also have an opinion.
If I were in your shoes knowing that there were not clear margins, I would at least have the one breast removed. I thought originally I would have my second breast removed, but I have no cause to do so at this time.
Did they do any radiation? Or plan any radiation?
Good luck to you, please keep us informed, ok?
