core needle breast biopsy

Had a mammogram due to a lump in my left breast. Results show about a 2 cm solid mass. Scored a birads 5 which is 95 percent chance of cancer. Had a core needle biopsy of the lump and 1 possibly enlarged lymph node. I'm really scared !

I am SO sorry to hear about your breast cancer diagnosis. I am so hoping it was caught at an early stage and your treatment will be successful.
Please let your treatment team know about your financial situation so they can steer you to appropriate agencies that may be able to help. I'm a retired nurse and know what you mean about being the caregiver and not always so ready to take care of ourselves. Family, friends and a cancer support group can be very helpful at a time like this. I'm sure you're a strong woman and you'd be surprised at what you can handle even though you think you can't right now. This is a time when you're shocked and vulnerable, so give it some time to sink in and then just decide to fight like h---! Trust in yourself and your treatment team and get the best care you possibly can---you need to do this for yourself.
Hang in there and and try to stay positive. Feel free to come back with any questions or for moral support or just to vent. My thoughts will be with you and I wish you good health in the future somewhere down the long road to
recovery..
Hugs,
nc

I was diagnosed with infiltrating ductal carcinoma :( I couldn't eat for the first 3 days. I felt like my stomach was in my throat. Was so scared and anxious. Dr started me on remeron and ativan. My appetite is better and less anxiety. I am still scared to death. Awaiting mri and other results. Surgery soon. What a life changer !! I am the money maker in the family. Have no disability insurance and no vacation time. I'm a nurse and for 20 years have taken care of everyone else but me. Somehow now it's my turn. Very scared :(

I just wanted to add my good wishes to zouzi and sam's.
We try to encourage everyone who is going through the various biopsy procedures to remain hopeful. Like zouzi said, there are stories here from women who are told "it's most likely cancer" who end up with benign results, even though it's also good  to be prepared for the worst. Even the small percentage who end up with breast cancer diagnoses have every reason to be hopeful. Most are caught at an early stage and are highly treatable. The important thing is to be vigilant and follow through on the recommendations. It's so much easier to deal with "what is" than to worry about "what ifs" for all of us. We all know how difficult the waiting is, but try to stay positive and try not to stress too much. Staying busy may help: try to distract yourself with things you like to do, talk with supportive family and friends, pamper yourself a little and take one step at a time. We'll be thinking of you and wishing you all the best. Please let us know how you're doing if you wish. There are supportive, informative and wonderful women here to help anyone who wants or needs it and for that we are all grateful.
Sending you a big hug (       ) from Michigan and hoping it helps even just a little,
nc

I pray for you. I never got given a birads score, but the drs in my case were very concerned I had cancer. They told me the image on the scan looked like cancer and had all the characteristics of cancer. I had a 2 day wait after my biopsy and I was sure I had cancer.. Such a horrible wait... Comes back I have a 2.4cm "sclerosing adenosis" benign! Apparently it mimics cancer on mammograms and ultrasounds. I know me telling you this doesn't give you the answer you want, but to make your next few days easier I think this might give you some hope. Beat of luck and I hope it's benign. X

Hi,
A BIRADS score 5 is rather worrisome, but please remember that only a pathology analysis of the tissue extracted can render a definitive diagnosis.
I can understand your concern over this finding, but try not to panic. We have heard from quite a few women in this Forum, that the lump in their breast was found to be benign when biopsied even though they also had a BIRADS score 5 assigned on their report.I hope and pray that your pathology results will reveal something other than breast cancer.
Best wishes and good luck !
