I have recently had a mammogram which showed an area of density on my left breast. My personal Physician examined me and felt it was most likely fibrocysticFibrocystic breast disease tissue. I also had a spotBirthmarks - pigmented Liver spots Measles, koplik spots - close-up Mongolian blue spotscompressionCompression of the median nerve Cpr - adult Cpr - child (1 to 8 years old) Cpr - infant and ultrasound of the left breast and both axillary regions because I have noticed a enlargedEnlarged adenoids Enlarged prostate, mobile, lymph nodeLymph node biopsy Swollen glands Swollen lymph nodes in the groin Swollen lymph nodes under arm in the axilla by the left breast.
The exams showed only fibrocysticFibrocystic breast disease tissue in the breast and a single enlarged lymph node measuring 1.9 cm in the left axilla. I have a history of removal of an abscessed lymph node from my right neck region when I was very young.
I was ill with a viral or bacterial infection about one month ago and that is when I noticed the lymph node. I also have studied any where from 6 to 12 hours a day for nine months leaning on my left arm and flexing the muscles in the left chest and axilla to the point of having to wear a protective patch on my elbow to keep from wearing the skin away. Now I am scheduled for a biospy of the enlarged lymph node. The Doctor at the breast center assured me that usually lymphoma would show more than one enlarged lymph node and is by nature of her business directed more toward some sort of malignancy etiology instead of addressing the possibilty of lymphadenitis from infection. Can fibrocystic disease of the breast cause enlargement of lymph nodes? My left breast is full of it and sometimes heavy, painful and classically symptomatic. If I do have an abscessed lymph node, could a needle core biopsy cause the contents to leak out and become systemic and possibly cause me to become septic? I know this sounds like a lot, but I have had previous experiences where I actually had two different medical issues in the same area and the symptoms were always grouped together and a correct diagnosis was delayed for a year.
Theoretically, a needle biopsy of an abscess may indeed cause some spillage of purulent material and create a tract from the skin to the lymph node. If proven to be an abscess through the needle aspiration, then I believe your doctor would recommend excision of the entire lesion and start you on antibiotics.
Fibrocystic disease can indeed sometimes cause reactive lymphadenitis and I will not be surprised if this lymph node turns out to be just that.
I would recommend that you stay calm and not to think so much since none of this would really help. Let's just wait for the biopsy, and I'm also confident that the results will turn out fine.
