how are you doing at this point? how are you feeling. im a breast cancer survivor who had a lumptectomy in 2001. i keep facing biopsies for microcalcifications since i had the lumptectomy. i have another biopsy scheduled for june 16th. if it doesnt come out benign i have to have a mastectomy. so, i would love to hear from you regarding anything you could tell me about your surgery experience. take care. be well.
Hi Heather, well done - you did the bravest thing that you could possibly do. It is hard waiting for results, but thank goodness that you are on the better side of it all.
I will keep in touch.
Best wishes,
Hazel
Hi, i am doing fine I am at home. It was quite the experience had bilateral mastectomy on the 21st, sent home on the morning of the 23rd. They removed my drains I feel it was too early. I am very nervous about my pathology report which my surgeon says he will not know anything for two weeks. I had two lymph nodes removed on the right side and one on the left. I am sore but the pain is managable. I feel relieved knowing the cancer is gone with my breast removal . I am definatley on the right side of it now thank you for your encouragement.
Keep in touch

Thank you for your response, my surgeon is also doing the sentinal node biopsy b/c he can feel a swollen node, very scary I guess the waiting game is the hardest,
Hi, I just want to say that I am sorry you are going through this, it is frightening, I have recently been through it too with High Grade DCIS - mine started to invade by 1mm so I had a mastectomy and am glad that I did - I had a lumpectomy first but wish I had gone for the mastectomy first, would have saved a lot of stress. DCIS is confusing, it states everywhere that it remains in the ducts, but mine didnt, it had just started to break out, so time is definitely of the essence. It sounds like they have found yours early and that they are sorting you out. Soon you will be on the other side of it all and they will have stopped it before it starts, so that can only be good. You mention that you had focal areas of necrosis - I had those and they turned out to be fat deposits. I am just glad that I had the mastectomy - I was a total wreck through it all but the day I saw the doctor and he told me I was fine and would be forever (big statement!!) then I was back to my normal happy self again. The recovery period for me lasted for about six weeks but that was because I had some lymph nodes taken out too. (they were clear - you may not have to have that) The lack of a breast doesnt bother me at all, its knowing that the DCIS rubbish has gone that is the important thing. Please let me know how you are doing and keep in touch, if I can help in anyway please post me, this site has been wonderful for me and lots of other people going through this, everyone understands and can help.
Best wishes.
