superficial armpit lump

im only 21 and for the past 2 months, i realized that there's a superficial lump under my left armpit.it doesn't grow in size neither cause any pain.i went to see my physician and he said that it's only a mass of tissues accumulated right under my skin (as the lump is located at the hair-less part of the armpit). will this lump leads to breast cancer?

Hi there.

The most common causes of lumps are still of benign nature like fibrocystic disease or fibroadenoma, and these lesions are unlikely to progress to breast cancer.  Still, in your situation, this lump should be monitored by you and your doctor and take note of any changes that you might experience.  Also, imaging studies such as mammograms or ultrasound may  help you ascertain the nature of this lump.  These lumps may also change in size, or come and go, coinciding with your menstrual cycle.  Other benign causes would include lipoma (fat accumulation) or redundant skin.  I suggest that you discuss with your doctors regarding these options.

God bless.
