Hi,
Relax. Wait for the reports to come in. you might need to get a biopsy done or a follow up mammogram in a few months' time as your doctor advises. All calcifications are not cancer, in fact most are not. But malignancy needs to be ruled out and a confirmed diagnosis reached. Discuss all your reports in details with your doctor. Goodluck.
Hi.
Breast calcifications are not always indicative of cancer. Some causes of breast calcification include:
- calcium within the fluid of a noncancerous cyst
- previous breast injury
- mastitis
- dermal calcifications such as caused by dermatitis or residue from metallic particles in powders, ointments and deodorants
- radiation therapy for breast cancer
- vascular calcifications
- calcifications in a fibroadenoma which is a benign tumor
When calcifications are seen, further work-up could be suggested including a biopsy, or a repeat mammogram can be done in a few months time to check whether there are any changes.
Hope this helps.
