new microcalcifications

40 year old caucasian female, distant hx of family breast ca in great grandmother. No additional health issues, no medications.
Routine Mammogram in 2007 - Birads O. No Issues
Mammo in March 2010 - Screening and subsequent diagnostic showing approx 5 cluster microcalcifications in left outer breast. Recommendation for follow-up in 6 months. Birads III-M
Follow-up in Sept 2010 - 10 clustered, faint microcalcifications in left, outer breast. Birads III
Recommendation for follow-up again in 6 months.
Currently requesting second opinion. Ideas? Thoughts regarding decision to seek second opinion? All of this in light of slightly elevated prolactin serum levels. MRI of brain negative.
Please advise. Thank you.

I think your decision to seek a second opinion is a valid one. Actually the BIRADS 0 on your 2007 Mammogram indicated that enough information was not available to render a report. I would think that an Ultrasound or Magnification views or even just additional views would have been done at that time. I'm not sure what type of second opinion you are getting but I would have the films read (all of them) by another Radiologist as a first step.  Regards .....

Thank you for your response. I appreciate your time.  I wasn't clear about the 2007 mammo in my above post. In 2007 an ultrasound was completed as well as magnification (on right side only) secondary to some nipple discharge I had in my right breast.  It was then bilateral Birads 1 - no issues. Most significant for me was that there were no calcifications at all in left breast  - and now three years later there are. Right breast remains free from any issues.  Thank you again.
