I agree with japdip....this is a "standard of care" in this case. Radiation will lesson any chance of recurrance and this only benefits You!
I am undergoing radiation treatment at this time. I have finished my first week! Yay!
I had a double mastectomy (my choice) due to my diagnosis of DCIS in my left breast.
My margins were not clear, however, they showed 2 cells of Invasive Carcinoma as well.
So far, my radiation treatments have been quick and easy. And no side effect expected, except maybe tiredness towards the end of the 6-7 weeks. Contact your Oncologist and let them know how you feel. Anything you do, or chose not to do, is entirely up to you! Your doctors recommend certain treatments for your benefit. but only you can follow through (its your choice).
Good luck on your new journey!!
I'm not sure why you do not want to have Radiation which is the standard of care in this type of case ... possibly along with hormone therapy depending on the Path. report. You should discuss your feelings with your Oncologist so that you will understand the advantages of any recommended post-op treatment including Radiation. Any treatment that will lessen the chance of recurrance is certainly worth some serious consideration. Regards ....
