my patient has stage 4 breast carcinoma, infiltrating duct carcinoma with bone, lung and liver metastasisOvarian cancer metastasis Spleen metastasis - ct scan.Doctor has included her in trial for herceptin ( she is herceptin +ve) along with harmone as she is ER receptor +ve and PR receptor -ve.she will also get Zomata but no other chemo. Is it ok.
This discussion is related to Is Herceptin injections for a year typical these days?.
The standards of treatment of stage IV breast cancer are constantly evolving. At the present, the use of biologic treatment such as Herceptin is becoming more widely accepted for Her2 positive patients with concomitant chemotherapy. If a patient is Hormone receptor positive, hormonal treatment can be given initially even without chemotherapy and just to reserve chemotherapy if the patient progressed on the present treatment. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network also recommends participation in clinical trials for cancer as this would provide the best possible care for cancer patients.
