surgeon information

This is a great site. When I had cancer 20 years ago information was hard to find. I am having a biopsy tomorrow for an 8 mm mass birads cat 5. picked up from my annual mamo and ultrasound. I have been cancer free for 20 years and that cancer was in my right breast, this mass is in my left. then  had a lumpectomy, rad/chemo etc. my question. I read about a site for researching surgeons or maybe just doctors in general. i have moved to another state and would return to where I lived 20 years ago; however my wonderful surgeon retired. I do not know anyone where I live, nor doctors, hospitals etc. Would really like to do a little reseach if the biopsy results show malignancy. thanks for any help or assistance.

Thanks for sharing your situation, and I am sorry you have to go through this again. However, treatment these days is not as scary as it used to be. Like, should you need chemo, it no longer goes with terrible vomiting, etc.

Diagnostically, it's a good sign to have a long time in-between cancers, and this is probably a whole new, and different cancer and unrelated to the last one. I hope it's managable and that you caught it early enough.

To get to your question, I am not sure how to answer it. I know there are sites that list and rate doctors, but they are not always very helpful.

I think it may be best to either ask your current doctors for their opinions, or otherwise cancer patients you know about their opinions. I think personal recommendations are usually the best.

I do recommend you try to get to  a breast surgeon and not take the first general surgeon that you may be referred to. The surgeon makes such a huge difference.

I loved my surgeon as well, and he moved across the country about a week after he operated on me. I also loved my oncologist and he feel off a mountain to his death about two months after I finished chemo.

It was then when I immediately contacted my other doctors for advice on who would be best for me as a replacement, rather then just waiting for an assignment.

I hope someone else can be more helpful but I just wanted to respond to you and welcome you to this forum.

I wish you the very best,

Katrin
