temporary inverted nipple at old age

my 82 year old mother is suffering from temporary inverted nipple.  all her life she has had normal protruding nipples.  once last month, her left nipple was suddenly inverted, causing her pain and discomfort, so she forced it out.  the area around the nipple became inflamed.  and today the incident happened again.  her left nipple were suddenly inverted and she complained of more pain and discomfort.  she forced it out again by applying pressure near the area.  this procedure caused her much pain and discomfort too.  and i can see that the entire area is inflamed and red.  please help me.  what can i do to help her?  can she take painkillers for this?  is this a normal incident or will it lead to a more serious problem?

Your mother definately needs to see a Dr soon.  Has she had a recent mammogram?

In my opinion your mother should seek medical attention because from what you describe,it could be either an inflammation,infection or a more serious problem.
An inverted nipple is not always a sign of malignancy. However, if the nipple that was not previously inverted suddenly become inverted has to be evaluated,especially when inflammation is involved.
Please make an appointment to see her doctor,the sooner the better.
