You don't say why you had the US ... I wouldn't think of that as a screening procedure. Your Physician must have had a reason for ordering the Ultrasound. Screening mammograms are recommended for women over 40 or can be ordered at any time if your physician finds a lump / or if you do.Each type of exam "sees" something different.

I had the ultrasound done because of a little discharge

Hi,

What is your age? What colour discharge are you having?

What other symptoms do you have? Have you noticed any abnormal features on breast self examination like a breast lump, nipple discharge , skin changes etc?

Mammograms are not able to visualise the breast tissue if it is dense as is the case in females less than 40 years of age. Then an ultrasound and MRI is done.

You could also talk to your doctor about this.

Let us know what your doctor advises and also post us if you have any doubts.

Regards.

Hi,

What does the ultrasound report say?

A nipple discharge is significant and needs to be investigated further if it -
- is persistent,
- comes out without squeezing the breasts or any stimulation,
- is bloody or foul smelling or altered,
- is associated with a lump, nipple or skin changes etc.

Has she noticed any abnormal features on breast self examination like a breast lump, nipple discharge , skin changes etc?

Do let us know if you have any more doubts and keep us posted on how she is doing.

Hope this helps.

Good luck.

The doctor didn't see anything on the ultasound...

Hi,

Because of your age - a mammogram would not be able to visualise the breast tissue accurately. It is possible that an ultrasound has missed a lesion.

You should talk to your doctor if an MRI is required. Do you still have the discharge?

You could also talk to your doctor about this.

Let us know what your doctor advises and also post us if you have any doubts.

Regards.
