Mass by Iliac Crest, please advise?

I recently had a cat scan due to a history of diverticulitus and some left side pain. I've also had pain in my left pelvic/upper hip area for a number of months.
This is what was on the report when I got it back::

Immediately lateral to the left iliac crest is a 17x21x25 mm enhancing mass. It is adjacent to the anterior abdominal musculature. However, it appears distinct from the surrounding fat. Etiology of this mass is unclear. Biposy is suggested.

Could this be cancer. what else could it be?
Do they have to remove the mass to biopsy it?
Just how big is 25 mm?

Also..could cutting the lesion out, if it was cancerous, cause it to spread? I have heard of that happening before.

Thank you so much for responding!
They took it the whole thing out under general, and said it was right next to /around the pelvic bone. They said they won't know anything till the pathology comes back. I wish they could have given me at least their impression of what it was. Are there types of bone cancers that crow on the outside of a bone?

25 mm is 2.5 cm or 1 inch.  The area is very small and could be biopsied with by a CT guided biopsy under local anesthesia.  Would recommend that procedure.

Without the biopsy or images we cannot tell what the lesion is, but you do need to get it biopsied
