Liver Cancer in 28 year old female

My new girlfriend who is 28 years old claims to have liver cancer. She is does not have hepatitus (hepatitis) or any other health problems and is physically fit. She has been abused  as a child and by an ex husband when she was 20. I am wondering and hoping that she has made up this thing to get attention. What are the chances of an otherwise healthy 28 year old woman to be afflicted with liver cancer. I suspect she is lying because she often talks about her future with me and her 11 year old daughter. How rare is it for someone her age and sex to have liver cancer ?

Primary liver cancer usually occurs in the setting of previously existing liver disease, and it is fairly uncommon to find in young women.  There are different types of liver cancers, but the most common type, HCC, or hepatoma, is usually fatal in a short amount of time if left untreated (you did not state if your gf has stated the specific type of liver cancer).

You stated that you are "wondering and hoping... and suspect" that she made this up, and I can understand that in a way, because liver cancer is a terrible diagnosis.  However, if your gf IS making up serious medical conditions to get attention, she should be seeking professional therapy and help.  As someone whose husband IS fighting liver cancer, I can tell you it is not something your girlfriend wants to pretend to have, and if she cares for you and those around her, she should stop lying about such serious and life-threatening matters.  Good luck.
