port flushed with nitroglicern

my mother had a port implanted near her left collar bone due to an aggressive breast cancer. The port has not been used for 4months, the surgen would like to have the port flushed with nitroglicern. He explained he cannot place it on the otherside because the cancer was it that area and he said their is no other place he can put it.(he removed both breast), she has had radiation in chest area many years ago for another kind of cancer, and had a kidney removed because of another type of cancer. My mother is very scared to do this proceedure she is afriad that something will go wrong. Has anyone had this done? If so please share with me your experience.

I have a power port under my right collar bone and everytime it's used it's flushed with saline and then heparin (to clean it and prevent a clot forming). I'm not at all clear why the port would be flushed with Nitroglycerin because that's a powerful cardiac drug. Does your mother have heart problems?  You might want to direct this question to one of the medical staff here who might provide some insight.  

If I've misunderstood your question, please let me know.  Like I said, I have a power port (under the skin by my right collar bone with nothing sticking out) and could answer any questions about that.
