From our experience with Calamity Jane Grey (11/82 - 03/04)...
For the last 2 years of her life we gave her subcutaneous fluids every other day as her kidneys were not functioning as well as they should. It was 50 - 75 ml of Ringer's Lactate and she always perked up after. Our vet showed us how and was more than happy to sell us the supplies so we could save on office visit charges.
If your cat's trouble is just diminished capacity, there is hope for at least a few more good years, just have to be able to put in a little extra time with the home treatment.
welcome but sorry to hear of your kitties dx.....CML gave you good advice, I don't know abt her but my own knowledge of CRF is limited, so I'll do something I don't normally do..that is recommend another website...Tanya deals specifically with CRF cats...and her knowledge is extensive!!! You will learn so much by surfing through all her headings...from symptoms to diet etc etc...please check it out, and by all means feel free to return to Medhelp anytime if we can help out too or just to update us..hope all works out. When in doubt about anything do always check with your Vet.

Hi pulses and welcome,
Could you just give us a little more information and what is the specific question you are asking.
How was the diagnosis of kidney disease made? .
Has your kitty been diagnosed with an infection or are his kidneys failing??
Have you consulted with your vet on any questions you may have ?
He should be able to help you understand completely what this condition needs from you to care for him.
Usually a cat with Kidney disease will have excessive thirst, since his kidneys are not able to conserve water. This also will make your kit urinate frequently--thus the need for drinking more water.
Send us a post with more specific questions and we will be happy to try and answer them from our own experience. We will not be able to prescribe or diagnose. That is best left to the experts.
Hope to hear from you soon,
CML
