Brother Kittens

Hi everyone. I have brother kittens, they turn a year old on March 13. They have their own room that they stay in at night and whenever I'm gone from the house for more than an hour.

One is bigger than the other (Saffron), for sure the dominant one. I have not gotten either of them fixed, they are strict indoor cats, and my husband and I have been considering breeding with them, is a sudden dream of his. LOL He wasn't even a cat person before!

They have been digging at the walls and the windows. I suspect that several of the outdoor female cats are going into heat. Also, the smaller cat (Tristan) has been trying to fight with his brother. At least Saffron just kind of lays there and lets Tristan think that he's getting in good hits.

Is there any way to keep them from doing this to their room (has lots of toys, climby things and their food, water and litter boxes), or will I have to get them fixed to get some peace and less damage? LOL

Thanks!

Oh I couldn't agree more!!!
I'm very much the same way, I can't afford another BUT if one in need should come my way...than I would think it was meant to be and I too couldn't ever refuse!
IF I had the $$$ that would be my dream also....to give them all a good loving place to live....both of the ones I have now were unwanted, the ragdoll I had previously too.....only my Opus was specifically chosen and paid for!! aww they are all presious.
good day to you and the boys!

I'm one of those cat people who sees a stray cat and wants to take it home and love it. If I could, I would start a rescue in my home, but I can't do that where I live.

The best cats I've ever had have been rescued strays. I think it's because they know what their life would be like if they hadn't been adopted. I believe that as pet owners, we have an obligation to make the lives of our animals as good and comfortable as possible.

I know all the outside and stray cats in my neighborhood. I don't really think of what I did with the Mom Cat as anything special.. I think that anyone with a heart would have done the same thing, whether they liked cats or not. I'd hate to think that someone would have just ignored something like that.

well good for you taking in the mother and looking after the birth of the kittens.......that is awesome!!!
Cats have a way of grabbing onto the heart of even very anti cat people...I know of a few instances within my own family!
You are giving these boys a loving home and a chance where there would have been none.....again GOOD FOR YOU!!

I feel bad for the breeding kitties now.. I had no idea they were treated like that! It's lots of fun to have newborn kittens, but I totally agree that there are way too many of them around. These boys and their siblings would have been feral if we hadn't adopted their pregnant mom. She showed up on our porch, being hassled by 3 toms. My human wasn't too happy about it, like I said not a cat person at all until the kittens were born. I've 'helped' a lot of litters, this was my 8th, I believe (used to live on a farm). He just sat there, stunned, watching. That's when he wanted to do the breeding. I actually had to tell him to stop handling the kittens so much, LOL.

The boys haven't been spraying, to the best of my knowledge. I had a cat several years back who would, and that's a smell you don't soon forget. I'm gonna be getting an appt for Saffron first, I think that would be best.

Thanks much!!

get him a book on breeding or tour a few breeders set ups, that will soon turn him off, I know it did me 20 years ago when I got my first two himalayans(with the same intention)...the sights you will see at breeders(even small operations) will turn you off right away, the caged cats that can never be household pets because they are unaltered....than when to old to breed they are put down.
Breeding and Vet bills can be very high, therefore the offspring HAVE to be from good blood lines inorder to be healthy and have the conformations.
I now own a beautiful 'black' persian/ragdoll cross from some backyard breeder who was trying to get ragamuffin kittens!!!  of course he didn't turn out as planned and had to be given away....my gain, her loss.
I am so glad you are reconsidering, these cats need to be loved and cared for but not reproduced there is too much of that already going on.
I know what its like to be on a tight budget too, I would get the more aggressive boy fixed first than follow with the other, I just hope they haven't started spraying yet, when they do its almost impossible to get it stopped, my black one Nemo was given away at abt 7 mos old, I got him altered than but it was abit too late as he does sometimes spray....especially when strangers stay overnight!! ( he's hit a few suitcases..lol)
good luck to you and the boys and stay with us we all love cats and cat stories on this forum!!

I was thinking along the same lines. What my guy really wants to do is breed Siamese or Abbys.. but I don't think he understands the expense and time involved.

I'm gonna call around to the vet offices tomorrow, see what I can get done. I'm on a limited income, I might look up the free fixing people who go around, too. I might only be able to get one done at a time, but I'll do it.. for the health and safety of my babies.

Thanks. I think I knew it was the way to go, I just needed to hear it from someone else. I appreciate the input.

honey your not going to like what I have to say!....please leave breeding to the pro's...why bring more unwanted babies into the world, to breed and sell you need to know much more than putting to cats together and hoping for some supper kitten to evolve....no one buys or wants kittens that are haphazardly bred, are you prepared to raise them all yourself???
secondly...they should have been neutered months ago, of course they are smelling the females and it will cause them to spray all over your home, than what will you do? put them down as so many do?
and of course 2 un neutered males are going to fight, thats what they do...when females are around, they will never get along and one will always be the losser, are you prepared for Vet bills?
Breeders that mate their cats keep them caged!!!....do you want to have to do that to your boys?
Please reconsider your thinking and get these two fixed and fast..
