Cat and Meowing

About 5 months ago, I found a stray kitten and after being unable to locate her owner decided to adopt her. One thing I have found troubling is that she never meows. The vet I saw told me it's possible that her vocal chords are damaged from a virus while she was still stray. I am not totally convinced with this...

The kitten is believed to be around 8 months old now. Does anyone know anything about this? Is there anything I can do?

She is able to purr and sometimes makes these noises (which I think may be attempts to meow), but all that you hear are hacking type sounds (she isn't hacking anything, it's just a sound she makes).

Any suggestions would be great!

I've noticed that single cats especially tend to go one way or the other. They're either very vocal, or not at all.

We have one that doesn't meow, but...squeaks. In ultra sonic ranges. It's very, very startling.

Haha, maybe she's just a quiet cat. It's just weird because she makes those weird noises now and then and I wonder if she's trying to meow. She's such a silly cat! :)

I have a tuxedo cat that never meowed until he was older.  Right now he is 5 and occasionally will meow at me- maybe once a month or so.  Even if you step on his tail (not like I try to-lol) he may turn around and hiss, but not meow.  I have another 5 year old cat that meows enough for both of them.
