Cat licking her hair off - allergies or stress?

My female cat has started licking off her hair on her paws and legs and possibly is starting on her belly - they are long hair and it's kinda hard to tell until a definite bald patch appears.  This has been happening since before Christmas.  At first I thought it was due to the loss of her beloved "Cat tree" but I got her a replacement - although I'm not sure she likes it near as much.  The Vet thinks it's an allergy - probably to food - but I can't get her to eat the $35 per 8lb bag of Green Pea and Duck food I bought for her.  She went days without eating and I finally gave in - as I didnt want to deal with those complications too.  So, I have just ordered another type of food - Venison and Green Pea - hopefully she'll like that a little better.....and I've ordered the stop itch wipes and lotion from Dr. Fosters and Smith.  I am hoping one of those will help.  The other issue is that I travel A LOT for my job - often gone at least 3 or 4 days.  I started travelling this heavy in September and her hair loss started after Thanksgiving.

Any ideas or things I can try.  I was thinking of trying the Feliway diffuser - but after just ordering over $50 of food and itch relief - I am going to hold off before spending $30 on an air diffuser.

Any comments are appreciated.

I have three cats, two male both neutered and one female who has not yet been spayed. I used the same cat litter i have always used since day one and the same food however one of our boys has started over grooming to the point of hairloss on his under belly and legs and one small area on his back by his tail. We did get a fleas at one point but these are completely gone and have been fore months before the hairloss started so i do not think he is allergie to fle bites, nor do i think he is lonely. I was wondering if it was stress, he and his brother have always play fighted and at times they get rough but this has always been the case. The only change we have had in the house is the young female coming into season and this is taking the other brotheres attention some of the time but the boys still sleep together. Could the females seasons be the cause?

I was having the same issue with my cat.....his whole rear quarter on his back was almost bare....looked like little blisters forming and looked very irritating for the cat....In order to give my cat relief from what looked like a bad rash....before I went to the vet who may have said it was stress related....I applied A& D Ointment by Schering -Plough available at the drug store...and his rash has almost disappeared and most of his fur has grown back....worth a try!!!...worked for my cat!!!

Have you tried Rescue Remedy for Pets? It works wonders for any animals stressed over changes in their environment. It is natural and alcohol free. With your 1/2 Siamese Fur Babies, I would keep a bottle on hand at all times. I had to with my rescued oriental/tuxedo mix and he wasn't even a full half. LoL. It came in handy for car rides, vet visits, etc.
