Cat recurring cancer

Hi,

I have an 18 year old cat that had a malignant tumor removed from just to the side of his shoulder blades on April 20, 2010.  I was told it was slow growing type and that Aki would probably die of old age.  Now, less than four month after getting the original tumor removed I have found two growths on either side of the original tumor.  I was wondering, with Aki being 18 years old if removing the new tumors would be a good option.  He is eating and going to the litter box fine.  In the morning he is very active and runs around.  I want to do what is best for him.  I don't have the money to get Chemo, and at his age I really don't know if it would be a good thing for him.  With his age I was wondering if removing the new tumors would be the best option or if I should let nature take its course.

Thank you, any ideas on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

Valerie B.

hi Valerie and welcome to the forum. we're not Vets here and can only give our own opinions.
I sympathize with kitty and with the decisions you have to make, I've been there too and so have many others on this forum.
IMO given the advanced age of kitty I agree that chemo isn't a wise choice. and Valerie if the new tumors aren't really bothering him than I wouldn't put him thru the trauma of another surgery either...the new tumors are most likely the same that have metastasized from the original and thus too would be slow growing(you would need a consult to confirm that)
Again I urge you to seek the advice of your Vet and make your own decision from there.
As long as he is eating/drinking and acting normally it doesn't appear to me that he is in any pain and still enjoying a good quality of life.
Please keep us informed and post as often as you'd like. my best to you both.

I meant to ask are these tumors fibrosarcoma resulting from vaccinations?

Thank you for your opinion.  The vet seems to think it is.

I'm very sure thats what the cause is given the location is one of the sites Vets use to vaccinate.
