my little girls were very neglected and isolated when I adopted them nearly 2 years ago. They were locked in a small room all day long, and the original owners actually took extended trips for upwards of 3 weeks leaving them locked away and alone. It took nearly a year to get them to stop hiding and then they started talking to me and I nearly cried to hear the little voices that were so cruely silenced for many years.
MewMew is a Maine Coon and their voices are like a magical musical sound, and Sophia Loren just chirps, but she chirps and cries when she wants attention and petting and seems surprised to even hear her own voice. I too tell them all day what beautiful girls they are and how much I love them and how good and big and strong they are getting....They don't talk as much as I would like them to talk, but they purr up a storm and my bed vibrates with their purring in the middle of the night, and that in itself is a wonderful thing to hear....
Hi Pam,
I talk to mine so much that when my husband is home he is always asking me "who are you talking to". Well he doesn't listen to me so obviously it's the cat--at least that is the excuse I use now.
I had the same experience with Meezy when she had all her teeth out. I left her on a Tuesday morning for surgery. The next day I went to seeher. The nurses said she had not moved since the surgery, but she heard my voice and struggled to get up to the front of the cage. She just purred and purred. I think she thought she was going to be abandoned again. She has never left my side--Oh they know all right.
I even know what all her meow's mean. They say Meows are something they only do for humans. In a cat colony it is all body language.
We are just saps for these little creatures--but they enrich our lives in so many ways!
of course......I live alone, so I do talk to my boyz all the time..and they reply too of course:)
they know by the sound of my voice most things I am saying to them. like, treat time, lets play birdie, come to mommy......or their favorite, you are such a good boy....
last year after Sami's dental surgery, I was allowed to immediately go sit with him he was groggy but fighting to move...I sat down and starting telling him what a good boy he was...he just settled right down and relaxed for a good hour while the anesthesia wore off more.
they know:))
