Hi,

The saying "If you cannot afford a pet, don't have one" definitely DOES NOT apply to you because you obviously have cared for your kitties very well. You're right, ear mites aren’t the worst thing in the world, and you do not need a vet to get rid of them. There is a product called Mita Clear which worked for my cat, who was infested with those some time ago. I took him to the vet and they prescribed Mita Clear and the price was $14.00.

Now, I got it for $14 because a vet gave it to me. You can go online and you'll find it for half the price. It can also cost you $5.00 only. So, yes, you have a pretty good chance with this. Websites like Petmeds sell this product, or you could just google ‘Mita Clear for sale’. You need to apply this product twice daily for an entire week. Then let the kitties relax and observe how often they scratch those ears.

To make sure you’re giving your kitties the best treatment within budget, you can search reviews on this product. It’s great. I guarantee it. My cat hasn’t shown any signs of ear mite infestation since I used Mita Clear.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.  :)

Congrat's on having loved and happy kitties. :-)

I'm not sure what ear mite medication to recommend but if you're very careful you can use a q-tip to clean out the ears to help keep the problem under control (don't go in deep!!!).  Over The Counter med's tend to be a torture for both cat and human to use and we find that this method works well for us.

Of course, we haven't had a serious ear mite problem in some time, so I can't say if this will work well for a major infestation.

As to fleas... you have to remember the fleas aren't just on your cats, they're in your house. A cheap method to use to deal with the problem is to get one of the lesser priced neck drops (which only work for a few days) and a good flea powder and spray.

First; Sprinkle the powder on the rugs, the furniture, bedding, etch once a day. Let it sit for an hour or so and then vacuum it. Do this for three or four days.

THEN use the neck drops (you can get a cheap brand, like Zodiac, for about 7 dollars).

Then continue for a few more days sprinkling flea powder and vacuuming as mentioned above (use the flea spray for inconvenient spots).

It's a lot of work to do this, but I've NEVER had it fail to kill an infestation. Another thing you can do is get the house/rooms cold during this period by opening the windows or keeping the heat turned down (fleas suffer and don't thrive in the cold).

Good luck, let us know if it works out.
