Eye infection

I found a small kitten yesterday and it appears to have an eye infection small drainage and barely opens it's eyes. Can I put triple antibiotic ointment around his eyes or do you recommend some other intervention.

Oh, a vet visit would be the cost of the visit, plus $15 for the eye cream, and $20 for the antibiotic. At least, that's average. It shouldn't be more than60-80 dollars, and the cream isn't imperative.

You need to get antibiotics into her. Do you have any amoxicillian about the house? It's a med that's safe for cats. For a kitten you'd be taking the equivalent of a pin point scraping and putting it in its mouth (500 milligram tablets?) Use anything, take it to a vet, get antibiotics somehow.

Otherwise the eyes will ulcerate and assuming she doesn't die she'll almost definitely be blind. I see more one eyed cats in a month than I care to (and some no-eyed) and this is always the cause.

Don't use the cream you're referring to on her eyes. It's not meant for ocular use.

From the time of infection, when you first see discharge...it takes all of one-two days for a cat to start losing it's sight from this kind of infection.

We had a dog that had a similar prob after she got sprayed in the face by a skunk, we were told to use regular eye drops and they worked..but not for long and it was a weekly sometimes daily thing that needed to be done.

I'm not sure about the ointment, but you can take a warm wet washcloth and gently wipe it's eyes.  My cat allows me to do this when he gets a cold and his eyes are yucky.
