My cat sits in front of the toilet howling... we keep the lid down so he doesn't drink out of the bowl... what's up with that??

Maybe you're the one confused, I'd be upset if humans were urinating in MY large water bowl too! :)  It's pretty common. I used to think cats are strange, but I'm beginning to realize thier behavior makes more sense than ours sometimes. And tub pooping is common. Better than on the bed and the rug!!!

'One time when his litterbox was inadvertantly unaccessible he even went so far as to poop in the bathtub, then came and told me about it, so I could clean it out. Do I have a genius or a mentally challenged cat?'

Obviously.....DUH,and he also sleeps on the back of the seat if someone forgets to close it... my query is: why the howling and the facination with toilet water... I mean he's always been a 'water cat', but why suddenly the howling, sorrowful howling, as if his heart is broken... sometimes he even does it just sitting outside the door when someone is in there showering, or peeing....he even sleeps beneath the bowl (where your feet would be if you were using the throne). One time when his litterbox was inadvertantly unaccessible he even went so far as to poop in the bathtub, then came and told me about it, so I could clean it out. Do I have a genius or a mentally challenged cat?
