My cat Shera is 2 years old. When you shake the car keys she comes running. She loves to ride in the car. She is only an indoor cat so she goes for walks on a leash. She also goes swimming when we go to the lake. She is in a home with 3 dogs and I think she is confused that she is a dog too. She is very routine orientated. And very vocal as well. When we go to the park, I have to say she is the only cat there on a leash. She is one of a kind. I love her dearly.
Ok. I guess I have average or below average cats. No extroidinary or amazing behaviors going on here.
The only thing I can think of was when we moved and it took us almost 3 weeks to get the oldest female into the crate to move her - AND she was inside, could not get out. She is a feral convert so she hates being picked up and you can only pet her when she puts herself in two specific places, the top of the cat tree and only sometimes if all is quiet, on the "cat" chair. My husband actually went over to the old house every night and slept on a roll away bed so she wouldnt be alone and I would go over everyday and try to get her into the crate.
Despite many discussions with her about how she needed to go into the crate if she wanted to be with the brother cats again she would not listen. Food dish only in the crate, she would hear us coming and boom! out of the crate so we couldn't close the door. Finally one day my husband said he was just going to let her out and have done with it, I guess a roll away in an empty house was getting to him. She must have picked up on his mood and she finally let me just put her in. On the car drive over it was the usual, cat crying the entire time and you feel like s*&% listening to it.
Well, I get her in the house and since it was mid afternoon, deep sleep time for cats, all the boys were under our bed so I took the crate to the bed and opened the door. She took one look at the boys and went under. What immediately took place I will never forget - she had a meowing, nonstop conversation with each and every one of them Went up to Tuffy and proceeded to meow, then Fred and then Cleo. Now this wasn't just a meow it was a conversation of meow after meow after meow. All in a relatively quiet tone. Each one with different intonations. There would be some long higher pitched ones then a series of quick short ones, then maybe a deeper toned londer one and then many more stacatto meows. This went on for about 2 minutes to each brother in turn. I was in awe. A full explanation cat conversation to each and every one of them. Perhaps, starting off with I'm so glad to see you, I never thought I'd see you again and I was alone and couldn't get out to find you and .........
It was heart rendering to say the least. The kitty wash fest began soon after that, one big cat pile of washing and grooming each other.
I know feral cats are very social and close to each other within their prides. She was from the first litter and the boys from the second litter and loved taking care of the kittens as her mom had each litter. Heck, she would still nurse from her mom after the 3rd litter! It took 3 litters for me to get her and her sister trapped and taken to the clinic to be spayed and stop the multitudes of cats that would soon be produced.
Never heard a cat conversation like that before or since -
My cat Mandy is 12 years old, when her food bowl is empty she gets frustrated and bangs it up against the wall and against her water bowl. Also, if you're petting her she will sit on your lap, once you want to walk away she starts growling and at times wants to slap you. Its really cute!
My cat Sasha is a 6 month old Seal Point Himalayan who sits by the front door waiting if you say "CAR RIDE" if you take too long she starts meowing for you to hurry up (sits on the head rest in the car too see out the window) She also like like jumping on to the arm chair next to my treadmill so she can jump in my arms when I'm jogging. I also walk her on a harness & leash.
My cat is weird, she eats paper products. Her favorite is tissue paper (which I usually keep hidden in a drawer), but she will settle for toilet paper. Every few days, she unravels like half a roll onto the floor and we find it all waded up with dozens of bites taken out of it! Oh, and friend think we're weird because we will order pizza and then serve it with cloth napkins instead of paper. The truth is that if we put paper napkins on the table, the cat would jump up there and eat them!
I've heard this is actually somewhat common in siamese cats (ours is half siamese), but I still think it's strange.
bedtimestory--I can't believe your cat puts its toys away like. He is better trained than my 2 year old!
Well my cat is very funny. I don't think he thinks he is a cat at all. He aligns the foods he wont eat. I feed him a combination of wet and dry foods. His dry food has stars, fish and heart shapes. Apparently he does't like the stars so he takes them out one by one and puts them on the floor one next to the other. Also, if I put his toys one next to the other one he'll get one, play with it for a moment and then put them right back where it was.
I was reading threads about declawing. I have to say I am lucky my kitty is very sweet and only bites when he is playing. He knows his limits when I tell him NO but I have dedicated a pretty decent amount of time to make him a well mannered kitty. He is now 8 months and sees my boyfriend as the alpha. Kitty literally surrenders even before starting to play and lets my bf do whatever the heck he wants with him.
I do not know if this is normal but there are curtains in my house separating the rooms from the living room. When he wants to go into any room in the house he'll lift his white paw, set the curtain aside and then get through the curtain like people do. I have never seen a cat acting like this and I think my cat has picked up lots of human behavior as we are the only 'things' he has ever seen.
