I have a Situation.

Well here is the thing:

My cat Abby has big butt biscuits dangling off his hair or "pantaloons" all the time. I clean it and 10 minutes later the big clump is there again after he goes to the bathroom. He is a 1 year old tabby with a lot,… a lot of hair.  I took him to the vet 2 days ago because he also scoots on the floor, bed, sofa.....wherever and I can understand that, kitty wants to have that area cleaned and he isn't going to take that poop off with his tongue now is he? The vet told me to feed him Science Diet, to which I replied that that is precisely the brand I use. He also did some feces tests to check for parasites. Results were negative. Vet said kitty needed to have that area shaved because he is more or less a medium-long haired kitty, so the stool makes contact with the hair, causing it to get stuck there.
Also, after the vet trip I noticed Abby was trying to dislodge a partially evacuated poop with no success. I had to take that thing off his butt myself. Do you guys think that he needs to have his anal glands exposed? He wasn't doing that so maybe the vet caused something when sticking his finger in there.

I am almost fed up with this situation. Is shaving his "pantaloons" and all that rear area going to solve this messy problem? My husband is about this close to go crazy.  The sheets and blankets smell horrible and I cannot keep washing them every 3 days. Please, what can I do to help my kitty? He hates it when people touch him there. He hates being groomed and he has never been at the groomer before. (IT TOOK 3 PEOPLE AT THE VET TO GET ABBY TO HOLD STILL WHILE THE VET TOOK SOME SAMPLES…..3 PEOPLE!!!) so yes, he hates it when people touches back there. I know that over at the vet they are experts when it comes to grooming but if any of you have been through this I'd certainly would like to know. What have you done to prevent this from re-occurring? What do I do first? He is, like I said 1 y.o and weights 12 1/2 pounds, but his frame is that of a relatively large cat. Besides, the vet did not mention Abby being overweight. Vet just said he looked healthy, shiny coat, great looks and medium-long hair. He eats a lot, and poops, and eats, and drinks and pees and poops and eats ALL DAY LONG. I’ve tried feeding him twice a day but he starts crying and it is so annoying….
On the other hand, if I feed him only 2ice he will not have to poop so many times in one day, right? But how do I go about doing this? I am also a bit afraid to cause a sudden weight loss which could affect his health. For a 1 y.o, neutered relatively active cat, how much food would I have to put in his bowl?

Next time I'll get a very short haired cat. This is almost unbearable.....my poor kitty...

Thanks hun...and yes...you do need more sleep lol. Why don't you take a day off? It'll do you good.

Well I have to talk to the vet very seriously about Abby. The vomit was yellow but there was no food there, not even a tiny bit of partially digested food. All I saw was hair. I have not changed his food. I feed him Science Diet because the food has fiber, zero fillers, no preservatives and high in protein, vitamins and all that goodness, besides, the food is Premium or so they claim. I should know, he is always going to the bathroom. He has no problem going, April, that's what's bothering me. Whenever he goes you see a big piece of stool stuck on his hair he he pantaloons je je. Well yea, and it's really gross and I need to have that cat shaved or I'll go crazy. He sleeps with me April, so you can imagine the smell of my blankets and sheets. Ugh, and when he scoots I just want to vomit. He leaves traces of stool on the floor. I feel sorry for my little one but at the same time my health is in question here. I'm sure I'll have to spend a lot of money every 3 months or so just to take him to the vet to get his behind nicely shaved. What bothers me the most is that he isn't a kitten anymore. He'll have to go through the stress of being at the vet with unknown people messing back there. Gosh I'm never getting another long haired cat lol. But I love him so so much.....

Keep me posted. I love talking to you. How's Mishis???

Yes, I do remember him getting fixed. I think I've just been brain dead the last few days. Sorry! :( Seriously, I gotta start getting more sleep. Ugh.
I am so sorry about him throwing up. You haven't tried a new brand of food, right? Cats can be so sensitive. He does have long hair. I can see where that would cause all kinds of problems. I hope things turn around for you soon.
Hugs and prayers sent your way!

April, he is fixed. Don't you remember my agony when I took him to the vet to get him fixed and declawed? I was crying in despair  and you told me it would all be OK?..oh you senile woman he he he he.....

Thanks for the diapers idea lol. Actually there is something else going on. It just happened last night. He has been vomiting. There is no blood or chuncks of food. I looked very closely and there was hair in the vomit, not hairballs though, but just hair here and there. It may be he threw hair up but then again the floor is full of Abby's hair so I really don't know what to think here. I made an appointment for Monday but if he keeps puking I'll have to take        him to the emergency animal hospital.  It never ends does it..

Christy, he was actually checked for parasites 3 days ago. Results came back negative. If you read my first post you'll see all I've done and all that has happened before taking him to the vet and after.  Poor thing...he doesn't seem lethargic or depressed though. He is eating like a cow and drinking like an elephant.  I really don't know why he was vomiting last night. Then again, it might just be hair. He has never puked before. He is a little over 1 year and weights at 12 1/2 pounds. The vet didn't mention him being overweight. The vet said he was happy because my cat was healthy . I didn't even know my cat's weight until 3 days ago at the vet. They just opened their eyes wide big open when they saw the number but  just told me that because he was male and neutered and relatively large then it was ok those 12 1/2 lbs. Also, neutered cats are supposed to gain 1 lbs per month but it doesn't apply to all cats as they're all different. Abby is one of those kitties that are supposed to gain 1 lbs every month, of course up until a certain weight limit. You can take a look at him. He is the one in my profile photos and I have some more also. He isn't overweight.

April, my friend, I love your cats. Tell me how Misha has been doing. Oh and don't worry if you don't remember. What's important to me is that you took the time to try  and help me here. I'm in this big ol' hole and I can't get out of it. Now, on top of this mess, my cat is vomiting. This morning I saw another piece of stool hanging right off his hind legs. I had  to wear gloves and with a wet napkin had to take that thing off. He was, again, dragging his bootie on the floor and that's when I noticed the big chunck of feces. It is tiring after all. On monday I am going to see the vet. I already told them Abby needed some serious grooming, shaving, shower and now this vomiting issue.

What do ya think huh....???? Everytime I see those things   dangling off his hair I just think 'Poor baby, that must really be uncomfortable'  But the stool just jeeps making contact with the hair.

As per Savas you should keep the back area clear of long fur this doesn't have to be done with clippers as they normally scare them but a pair of scisssors whilst you are having a quiet moment with you cat just a little at a time. Be very careful snipping not to cut him.
He is obviously having trouble with his stools so buy some fish oil capsuls and snip the end of one and squirt the contents into his food. Most cat love the taste and mixes well with fish foods. This will not only give him a softer stool and more easily passed but give him a healthy coat and great heart.
"Boot" scooting is what we call scraping the bum on the floor but this is normally see in cats too large to lick themselves clean so they drag their bottoms on the floor in the wild they do it on the grass. It could also be a sign of worms so maybe as a precaution and if you haven't already done it - deworm your cat. bestest

Butt biscuits and pantaloons!!!! Prettykitty, you crack me up!!! Lol, sorry, I know you were asking for advice but I love your choice of words! Ok, gasp....gotta catch me breath and wipe the tears away.
Ok, seriously now, I think Savas gave you some good advice.
As for the feeding, you can try feeding twice a day. It won't hurt him, he just won't like it. I've heard that that there are certain brands of food that are supposed to help with regulating things better too, where they don't have to poop as often, I guess? I'm sorry, I'm not sure of the brands but it's supposed to be better quality food. At least that's what their claims are. I almost want to say it's the natural brand at Petsmart? Sorry, I just can't remember the names. Maybe you could ask your vet about this? Or ask the people at Petsmart or another pet store.
Is Abby fixed?
You could always invest in some pet diapers. :) Gosh, I just don't know what else to say to help. Check out the different brands of food, though, and see if any of them help.

And how the heck are you??? I never hear from you anymore! Keep in touch!

The cat isn't overweight. I will have to take him to the vet to get that area shaved and I will have to do that more than twice in one year. I do not dare mess with that area at all. I am too scared of hurting him.
lol you always bring something funny to your comments. Last sentence...good one!

I would suggest using a scissor or an electric clipper. If you do go with the electric, make sure it can be used at a speed that has a low level humming sound, not that high intensity whine. That more than anything will make your cat explode and "freak out". Th sound either grates on thier nerves or more likely is reminiscent of an animal "panic yowl" and sets off an appropriate reaction. (I often think that's why the vacuum makes them run. It's the intensity of the noise and pitch... sort of like having a big, plastic animal enter the room and start screaming "Danger! Danger! fight! fight!" :)

You should try brushing kitty before you clip her as well. I've never met a cat that doesn't like being brushed, and it might lessen the shock when you finally start clipping back there. Leave the clipper on while you're brushing her so she can get used to the sound. You don't have to totally shave her, just cut down the fur in the area to a shorter, more manageable length.

Otherwise, I forget, is your cat overweight? generally this problem comes up with over weight cats for a variety of reasons. The long hair would just make it worse.

Oh, and I can sympathize with your cat. I think I'd need three people to hold ME down if someone wanted to take "samples back there". :)
