8 month old kitten skin problem?

I have two twin 8 month old female kittens and one of them has had something appear on her face that I just thought was her and her sister playing rough and then it cleared up. Well now something looking similar has appeared under her chin. I plan on taking her to the vet this week since my vet is closed on the weekend but I was hoping maybe someone here knew what it was and could ease some of my worries that something is wrong with her.

first of all she is a beautiful little girl:)
I will send you a good article and some photos on skin problems and possible causes...
just by looking at your photo it looks to me more of a scratch, have you noticed her scratching at herself? or your first guess could still be the cause some gently fighting...
b/c this really doesn't look like the usual breakouts caused by food allergies or flea bite allergy. I will also include one of my boy Sami and the skin lesion he experienced a couple years ago..he was tested for nearly everything at the time and it 'appears' to have been an allergy to chicken, it did completely clear with a change in diet. afterwards he is able to eat chicken in small amounts.
when you reply tell me what your cats diet is. I wouldn't rush off to a Vet's just yet, their normal fast fix treatment is a steroid shot that I am TOTALLY AGAINST unless the problem becomes really widespread and its used as a last resort...steroids lead to many other health problems and they aren't a solution, they don't treat the cause.

Thank you both very much for your replies. I took frack to the vet yesterday and had her looked at. The vet believes it is just an allergy to the plastic bowls and suggested I switch to stainless steel. Or she found a piece of flea poop or flea egg so I got Revolution for both frick and frack since she said it could be like you said opus an allergy to a flea bite. She also gave me a topical cream to help relieve any itch for her. Thank you very very much again for helping ease my worries it was something much worse.

Hi there, I thought I would jump in.  I've been examining your pic...the area looks swollen to me....like there is something underneath causing the skin to break open.  When I saw this for the first time last night, my first thought was your girl has an abscess.  It might just be the picture and the way she is sitting, but if I were you, I would get a vets opinion just to be safe.

She is super adorable by the way! :)

try eliminating the dry food, there are so many additives and preservatives in dry that IF this is an allergy its a good place to start.

you can also try eliminating chicken in the wet food....chicken is a huge allergan, mainly b/c its so common (even when you think you are feeding beef for instance, if you read the ingredients its still 'in chicken broth')
so cats are like us...something they are exposed to often they can develop an allergy to....but its also not good to feed fish..this is so high in mercury anymore and just not safe for cats..they even tell us to limit our servings to once or twice a week.
so thats makes a diet pretty limited, I was forced to put my Sami on beef(wtih no chicken on label) and ocean fish...in the pate with NO gravy. b/c anything with gravy is high in carbs and also an allergy component.
he does now eat one serving of a chicken based food per day and has had NO outbreaks for nearly 2 years.
just check the site carefully to make sure there is no lump that is causing an irritation...since you are worried abt a tumor good to keep a close check on.
thx for the comments on Sami, yes he is an adorable boy....he knows it too. lol

Thank you I feel much better cause the second one appeared in the same spot my last cat had a tumor and I got really worried and nervous. I try to give them a range of different kinds of food well flavors. For wet food I give them friskies shreded (chicken, chicken and salmon, salmon, turkey and cheese, beef, ocean whitefish and tuna). For dry food I want to say it was Boots & Barley kitten formula(It is in one of the gravity feed bowls and I don't have the bag anymore). Her sister frick hasn't developed anything that looks like it. She doesn't seem to be scratching at the area like it bothers her. Her sister seems to clean it every so often though when they cuddle up in bed. The same with the first one from the pic. Frick would lick at fracks face in the spot once in awhile.

The one in the picture was the first one that appeared on fracks face it cleared up in a few weeks with no treatment other then me making sure it was clean and patting with gauze every so often. I just assumed frick was playing to rough with frack because sometimes I do have to split them up because they get what looks like a little to rough with each other and one will cry.

Sami looks adorable glad to hear it cleared up for him hope he is doing well.
